Art Connections works with high school students applying to fine art and design college programs, helping showcase artistic talent, build a competitive portfolio, and meet the unique application requirements of creative higher education while making it an enjoyable process. Customized niche services and support may include:
College Selection Guidance
We help students and parents navigate the diverse world of fine art and design education by identifying schools that best align with individual student profiles, considering their interests, strengths, personality, career goals, and budget.
Portfolio Development
Our realistic, strategic approach ensures that students’ portfolios meet the varied requirements of different art programs, helping them create work that stands out to admissions committees. Julia’s eye for talent and decades of experience as an art director bring the right combination of skills and knowledge that will result in outstanding student portfolios.
Assisting & Coaching
We assist with crafting compelling artist statements, written college essays, and mock interviews to prepare for applications that highlight the student’s artistic vision, personal voice, and unique story.
Presentation & Documentation
Expert guidance is available for photographing both 2D and 3D artwork, along with recommendations for creating an effective digital portfolio site, which many colleges and universities now require.
Experiential Learning
We seek opportunities for our students to visit professional art and design studios, attend gallery openings, artist talks, explore diverse museum exhibits, and learn to truly see and ponder a work of art.
Planning & Oversight
Navigating the college application process can be overwhelming – that’s why we strive to alleviate the pressure with a tailored plan. To aid in each step of the submission process, we start with an interest form and a student/parent interview. With information from the discovery phase, we prepare customized materials including comparison spreadsheets, application calendars, checklists, scheduled status meetings, progress reports, and more.
Supplemental Services
Comprehensive support is available for various aspects of an art education journey and future career development. Supplemental services may include researching art scholarships and financial aid opportunities, guidance on beneficial summer programs, pre-college courses, internships, advice interviews, juried student art shows, field trips, and art-themed travel.
